Board uses numbered ballots to pick five administrator finalists and two alternates

The board approved a ballot system and, after public tabulation, advanced five numbered candidates (13, 20, 29, 44, 50) and two alternates (54, 41) to the administrator interview stage; staff will schedule interviews and citizen work-group input next month.

The Ottawa County Board adopted a ballot-based method to narrow the pool of county administrator applicants and publicly tallied commissioners' numbered selections. Justin (clerk/support staff) explained the rules and displayed a live tally as commissioners submitted ballots. "We will conduct a tally, and the goal is to get to six votes; that's a majority," he said while reading ballots aloud.
