Council affirms Stop 43 stabilization work; environmental permits nearly complete

Council discussed technical components for the Stop 43 project including a retention wall to keep sand out of drainage systems, installation of landscaping boulders to support dune stability, planting of dune vegetation to reduce erosion, and construction of a boardwalk connecting new stairs to the beach. Officials said environmental permitting through the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) is near completion and the Army Corps has requested involvement through the joint application process.
