Planning Commission moves to begin full master-plan rewrite; county funds available

The Planning Commission voted on April 9 to recommend proceeding with a full rewrite of the Clinton County Master Plan as part of the required five-year review.
Lynn Wilson reviewed the statutory requirement to evaluate the county master plan every five years and said the plan’s data and policy information are outdated. Commissioner Jan Motz argued for a full rewrite because of county growth, recent township zoning changes, renewable-energy development, and data-center considerations. Commissioner Dawn Levey cited demographic shifts in the Village of Elsie, including an increase in rental housing.
County Administrator John Fuentes confirmed that funds have been allocated for a rewrite but said the budget process requires Board of Commissioners approval and that the rewrite is expected to take approximately one year to complete. The commission moved to recommend starting the rewrite and the motion carried unanimously.
