Fire department partners with Elko County School District for Spring Creek fire-technology class

Fire Chief Matt told the board the department has partnered with the Elko County School District to run a fire-technology program at Spring Creek High School. He said the class currently has “about 15 or so” students who receive daily instruction — roughly 58 minutes Monday through Thursday — covering basic wildland and structural firefighting skills, first aid and CPR.
Matt said instructors from the fire department teach the course and that the department hopes the program will help recruit future volunteers while improving local firefighting skills. He said the plan is to grow the program into a junior–senior offering next year, which could bring additional state funding to the school district and allow the partnership to expand to other local schools.
