Fire commission approves tapping school water for new Ruby Valley volunteer station

The Elko County Board of Fire Commissioners voted to approve a cooperative agreement that lets the Elko County Fire Protection District tap an existing school well to serve the new Ruby Valley Volunteer Fire Department station.
“The new station is going in right next to the school,” said Chief Peterson, who explained the school’s pump and water rights are large enough to support training, suppression and domestic use for the station. Peterson said tapping the school’s system avoids drilling a new well that could otherwise impact the school’s water supply.
Commissioner Delmo moved to approve the agreement and a second was recorded; the board voted unanimously in favor. Chair (speaker 1) noted the school board approved the school district side of the agreement at its meeting the previous night.
The agreement is designed to make the station operational without creating a separate well and to support training activities in Ruby Valley. Chief Peterson said the arrangement also provides convenience and reduces duplicative impacts to the school’s water infrastructure.
