NDOT reports modest traffic growth, lists local projects and winter preparations

Kareem Youssef, district traffic engineer for the Nevada Department of Transportation, told the Elko County RTC that local traffic counts "have increased just a little bit" and that regional growth appears steady in the range of several percent year to year. He apologized for printing the wrong traffic-count page and agreed to send the correct counts to staff after the meeting.
Kareem walked the commission through several ongoing and recently completed NDOT projects, including tunnel lighting upgrades, pavement rehabilitation, overlays and bridge work, a US 93 chip-seal pilot and an overlay on SR 229. He said the planned Spring Creek roundabout’s notice-to-proceed and schedule may be adjusted for seasonal work and noted the roundabout construction could be suspended until March 2025 because of weather and lane-closure constraints.
On maintenance, Kareem reviewed chip-seal and paving locations (SR 228, SR 230, SR 233), salt-and-sand pad sites, crack sealing and other routine work. He described a program to install snow-drift signs on stretches of US 93 and related routes after district staff identified drifting hazards last winter, noting the work was initiated by district staff including Hassan Raza and Sam Youssef. He said NDOT will provide the commission with the full project and traffic-count materials after the meeting.
