Commissioners split on posting county fire marshal position after ESD interim work; motion to post fails
Aug 25, 2025
After extensive testimony from Emergency Services District representatives and county staff about public safety, costs and statutory authority, the court debated whether to post an in‑house county fire marshal. Commissioners discussed costs (county hire vs. ESD interim ~ $1,000/day), ESD governance, and timelines; motions to table and to post failed and the court took no action to post a permanent county position.

The commissioners spent more than two hours debating whether to post a county fire marshal position or continue with an interim arrangement that had been performed by Emergency Services District 1 (ESD 1) and the Public Safety Alliance. ESD representatives offered to convene a committee with the court to plan a phased, long‑term solution that could shift operational responsibility and potentially relieve county funding obligations.
