Forest announces Angel Lake Dam reinforcement and Ruby Crest Trail proposal

Wendy Markham, representing the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, updated the board on recent work at Angel Lake Dam and a forestwide recreational-trails proposal. Markham said crews reinforced and armored the spillway this late summer, and she and regional engineering staff agreed on a plan to bevel the dam so it is easier and safer to access when water levels are low.
"I wanted the dam beveled so it'd be easier to get in and out for the kids," Markham said, adding that the regional engineering director agreed to reinforce the structure while also improving recreational access. She asked the board to consider providing a letter of support for a trails proposal that would bring GBI trail crews to address work on the Ruby Crest Trail.
Markham also noted seasonal campground closures of water systems and scheduled cultural workshops with the South Fork Band tied to Overland Project reviews. She concluded by offering to provide a proposed action once the regional engineering office finalizes its plan.
