Fire-rehab, noxious-weeds program NEPA update — public comment period closing Oct. 9

Casey Addy, supervisory natural resource specialist for the office of fire management, told the board the office has published a draft environmental assessment covering a fire-rehab program and noxious-weeds work, and is updating NEPA documentation to align with current science. He said a public-comment period opened on Sept. 9 and closes on Oct. 9, and he invited comments from the board and local stakeholders.
Addy said the program analysis includes a proposal to add 13 herbicides for landscape use and that the agency welcomes feedback from local boards. "We also wanna add in 13, new herbicides to use out on the landscape," Addy said. He framed the NEPA update as preparatory work so crews can proceed when approvals and plans are finalized.
Board members did not move to take formal action on the program at the meeting; Addy encouraged stakeholders to submit comments before the closing date so the agency can incorporate local observations into the final analysis.
