Engineers flag railroad and highway crossings as major technical challenge for sewer replacement

During the April 13 public input meeting, Brosz Engineering said full replacement would involve replacing piping and manholes and would be complicated where sewer lines pass beneath the railroad and the highway. Limesand said the town would likely need to bore a new section under those crossings if it opts for full replacement to avoid surface excavation that would disrupt those critical corridors.
The engineering team also identified sections that are unlinable because pipe pieces are missing, cracks are too large, or root intrusion is excessive; those segments will need to be dug up and replaced even if the town pursues trenchless lining elsewhere. The PER will distinguish linable stretches from those requiring open excavation and estimate costs for each approach.
