EMA warns county it needs $120,000 backup radio console after unit failed

Miami County Emergency Management (EMA) told the council the backup 800 MHz radio console at the county’s backup 911 center failed, is unrepairable and out of warranty, and needs replacement to preserve backup communications.
EMA lead Herb Hunt said a standalone console is estimated at roughly $120,000 and a formal quote is pending from vendor J&K. Sheriff’s representatives cautioned that losing backup functionality would force reliance on neighboring counties and stressed countywide impacts for public-safety agencies. The council placed the urgent console need as distinct from larger EMA building plans and indicated the procurement and training requirements would be handled as an immediate priority.
