Commissioner Young moved to authorize the hire at $5,000 per month for five months; Commissioner Clark seconded. The motion passed on a roll call vote with Commissioner Clark, Commissioner Young and Chairman Hancock voting aye. Butikofer said that, during next year’s budget process, he will request authorization to add another full‑time attorney.
The contract approach was presented as a way to add capacity without the county incurring benefits costs immediately. The board did not provide additional procedural direction at the meeting; no amendment to the motion was recorded.
