Commissioners authorize Republic Services to file landfill permit modification; operator says collection resumed

The court authorized Republic Services, the contracted operator of Polk County’s regional landfill, to submit a permit-modification application to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for the Polk County Regional Waste Management Facility (municipal solid waste permit MSW-1384A) at no county cost.
Staff described site changes included in the modification—reduced western footprint, a wider top deck, relocated scale house and citizen drop-off station, a wheel wash station, drainage improvements and updated operating plans and liner-quality control—and said Republic Services paid consultants to prepare the application. Republic representatives attended the meeting; Zach Peterson of Republic Services identified himself and confirmed that citizen collection stations had resumed operation approximately two weeks earlier. Commissioners approved the authorization by motion.
The permit remains with Polk County as the permit holder; Republic Services will proceed with consultant-prepared materials and submission to TCEQ pending the court’s authorization.
