Planning director outlines timeline for Edmond’s Unified Development Code; first council action expected in October

Ken Bridal, Edmond's Planning Director, provided an overview of the proposed Unified Development Code (UDC) adoption process and the expected schedule. The UDC will consolidate Titles 21–23 (subdivision, zoning, stormwater) into a single Title 26 and update standards and processes.
Bridal said the consultant team turned the next full draft over to quality control and staff expects to start routing the draft to planning-related boards and commissions within weeks. "Our consultant team's last update on that from last week is that draft has been turned over to their quality control group, and we should expect it here in the next couple weeks," Bridal said. Staff proposed the first opportunity for council action in October and a 180-day effective date after adoption to allow migration of maps, portal changes and related code amendments.
Council members asked about applicant protections for development projects in progress and how the transition would be handled; Bridal said staff would allow certain applications submitted under the old code to proceed for engineering and site-plan work while zoning applications could transition to the UDC as appropriate. Council asked staff to schedule workshops and continue public outreach as the draft advances.
