Council agrees to propose pedestrian-crossing sites, asks UDOT for spring study

Eureka council members and staff agreed to propose specific locations for additional pedestrian crosswalks and to ask the Utah Department of Transportation to schedule studies during higher-traffic months. Council members said UDOT advised studying crossings when pedestrian and vehicle traffic are busiest rather than during slower winter months; staff suggested late April to early May and around school dismissal times for data collection.
The discussion listed candidate crossings including the corner near Taylor’s/old bank, the area by the elementary school and a high-school pickup zone. "He recommended doing a study when traffic is at its highest or crossing traffic, right, where the crosswalk would go, rather than in the winter," a staff presenter said. Council members asked staff to compile proposed locations and email them to the staff contact and UDOT by early May so the study can be scheduled for busier periods.
