The county’s fire marshal told commissioners that some investigatory equipment must be stored to NFPA standards because of off‑gassing and carcinogen exposure and therefore requested a pickup with a locking bed cover and secure storage. He described the current vehicle as a 2019 Explorer in good mechanical shape but said it lacks the space and secure storage needed for specialized equipment and asked for a full‑size, 4‑wheel‑drive crew cab, estimating a cost of about $85,000 for an appropriately configured vehicle.
