Chair Richard Varga told the Avon Tree Commission that Arbor Day will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, after he submitted the 8-1-1 trailer form and completed the City permit paperwork that officially set the date. He said he has confirmed Parks Department availability and secured Betsy Thayer from the zoo to provide a petting-zoo attraction and that a beer distributor has been arranged for refreshments.
Varga said the Commission plans to contact a jazz band before the end of the school year to avoid summer scheduling challenges, and that last year’s National Anthem vocalist has expressed interest in returning. He characterized progress as substantial but said there is still time to refine plans and assign tasks to ensure a successful public event.
