County to post only agendas online after state ADA changes; residents may request full packets

County officials told the board that new state guidance on ADA accessibility will change how the county posts meeting materials online. Auditor Sam Reed said state-mandated ADA requirements mean the county cannot continue posting the full packet as-is and will post only the agenda itself going forward. “So I will no longer be posting the whole packet for the agenda after this week. It will just be the agenda itself,” Reed said.
Brandon Beamer, county IT, explained the technical challenge: images and mixed-source documents in the packet require substantial work to make fully accessible. “ADA compliance is kinda complicated for the documents, and the text is very easy to do compared to all the images and stuff that we have in the in the packet,” Beamer said. He said the county is already required to post the agenda and that making every document compliant would take considerable effort. Board members and a meeting participant asked whether the county could provide a link or distribute documents on request; staff said residents could email to request documents and that staff will coordinate compliance work ahead of the deadline next year.
The board did not vote on policy that day; staff advised how they will meet state accessibility requirements and indicated the change will affect public access to full packets until the county completes conversion work.
