Rowlett approves participation forms for Purdue and generic opioid settlements

Rowlett City Council voted unanimously on Sept. 16 to authorize the city manager to submit participation and release forms related to opioid settlements, including a Purdue settlement and a grouped set of smaller generic manufacturers.
City staff explained the state's allocation approach: when the state receives settlement funds, 15% is distributed to counties and cities, 15% is retained by the state and 70% goes into a statewide opioid trust fund for future uses. "When the state receives the opioid settlement funds, it distributes 15% to counties and cities," staff said. Council members voted to adopt two separate resolutions to accept participation forms and complete the required releases, with the expectation that any funds received will be used to remediate and address opioid impacts in the community.
Council members made the motions and both items carried unanimously. Staff indicated they have filed similar participation actions in the past and will monitor the state's distribution schedule and guidance about permissible local uses.
