Plano ISD officials told trustees they will expand the Math Rocks double-acceleration pathway to every elementary campus beginning in the 2026–27 school year, aiming to give students local access to accelerated math without requiring transfers. "Starting in the 2026-27 school year, Math Rocks will be offered at all of our elementary campuses," the presentation said, and staff outlined communication plans for families and professional learning for teachers.
The math-pathways update framed three priorities: closing opportunity and achievement gaps with targeted interventions, increasing K–5 math enrichment and problem solving, and expanding Math Rocks so students can access geometry in 8th grade via coherent earlier instruction. The district also plans STEM labs at elementary campuses, partnered curriculum development with the foundation, and monitoring and alignment to assessments to sustain consistent implementation.
Trustees asked about selection, scheduling and mid-year qualification; staff said the program will allow local placement at a student's home campus, periodic checks for newly qualifying students, and options to move between classes if a placement does not meet a student's needs.
