Public comments highlight holiday lights program and youth mentoring needs

During the public-comment portion of the Jan. 14 meeting, John Luke said the county’s Christmas lights program "went well," reported two computerized light setups and asked for more volunteers; he noted donors and described the roasted marshmallows and cocoa consumption: "The roasted marshmallows was well liked, and they went through 76 packs of cocoa." John also raised the idea of seeking human-powered rides for next year’s fair.
Diana Zimmerman, representing the Youth Mentoring group, said the program currently has 12 children and nine mentors on the east end and three west-end mentors with no kids. She described the mentorship commitment (four hours a month for a year), monthly group activities such as fishing, weaving and painting, and invited more mentors and two-hour group art activities for children ages 6–18.
