County staff: state grant will fund Year 2 consultant support for solar-code work

Planning staff told the commission that the Washington State Department of Commerce will provide Year 2 grant funding to support consultant technical assistance for the solar ordinance and related code updates.
"Planning staff has confirmation from the Washington State Department of Commerce that funding shall be available under the year 2 periodic update grant for additional technical expertise from consultants," said assistant county planner Grace DiBiase. County planner Allen Thompson said the first grant year is closed out and Year 2 contracts are expected later in July with consultants back on board by September.
Commissioners emphasized the role consultants will play as facilitators (not as code writers) and asked staff to coordinate consultant analysis and legal review ahead of the commission's next substantive vote on setbacks and final text.
