Council probes floodplain, operations and code issues for potential fire station space

Former Police Chief Raffaello Pata and the fire service delegation cautioned that police and emergency functions carry special program needs—secure circulation, victim privacy, and diesel exhaust and mechanical systems—that can increase fit‑out costs. The design team said selective borings and targeted geotechnical work would clarify constraints; the team recommended limited preliminary borings to inform schematic design before committing to larger investigative budgets. Council members emphasized that operation and staffing costs are separate from capital bond funding and must be addressed independently before promising a working staffed station.
