The Traverse County Commission voted Dec. 17 to certify the county’s 2025 levy at $7,413,576.96, representing a 6.51% increase over 2024. The Board’s action followed an earlier unanimous decision to raise the annual solid-waste fee from $35 to $45; officials said the fee change reduced the levy increase from 6.82% to 6.51% and included a planned $500,000 withdrawal from reserves.
Auditor/Treasurer Kit Johnson briefed the commissioners on the levy calculations and recommended the solid-waste fee change. Commissioner Jerrel Olson moved to certify the levy; the motion passed 4-1 with Commissioner Kayla Schmidt recorded as opposed. The Board also approved keeping the 2025 per diem rate at $75.
The approved levy and fee changes were recorded during the regular Board meeting; the levy certification followed motions and discussion recorded in the minutes and does not include any additional implementation steps specified at the meeting.
