Board hears Teaching & Learning update on 4K–4 literacy goals

On Sept. 23, 2024, the School Board of the Oregon School District received an update on the district's 2023–2024 4K–4 literacy goal and the strategies staff will use in 2024–2025 to support early-grade literacy. Dr. Leslie Bergstrom said the Vision and Strategic Planning update would be embedded in the Teaching & Learning presentation, and district staff described building-specific literacy approaches.
Presenters included Lindsay Engelhart, Anna Seidenstricker, Kerri Modjeski, Lindsay Eimerman and Dawn Goltz, who summarized progress on last year's literacy benchmarks and outlined professional-development and classroom-level strategies to support students in 4K through fourth grade. Board members had the opportunity to ask questions about implementation and supports. The presentation did not include a superintendent's report; the agenda noted the superintendent's report was omitted due to the late hour.
