Engineers report data complete for US‑278/Argent projects; public meetings set for October

Jeff Buckley, the project presenter, said the US‑278 and Argent Boulevard projects are in preliminary engineering and planning. "All that data is collected and done," Buckley said, listing field control surveying, LIDAR and updated traffic counts. He added that utility coordination and environmental flagging are underway.
Buckley described typical widening choices, saying, "US 278 goes from 4 to 6. Origin is gonna go from 2 lanes to 4 lane divided or 5 lane with the center and turn lane." He emphasized that intersection geometry and turning movements are the critical design elements, and added that widening to the outside is preferable where possible to avoid median barriers. He also said two bridges on the corridor appear in good shape and may be widened rather than replaced, a result that could reduce cost and traffic controls.
Buckley said three signals are being installed on Argent and DOT is adding signals at key intersections; the team plans to re-run counts after signals are energized to update models. He announced public information meetings in the first week of October at the Palmer Electric Building in New River and said plans will be submitted to SCDOT for a courtesy 30‑day review ahead of public outreach.
