Town identifies server single-point failure; FEMA mitigation application must include H&H study

Mayor Ramey Dixon told trustees the town discovered a single-point failure in its server/information system that disrupted phones and the website and that he has asked the contracted vendor to propose redundancy solutions. He said the town will seek proposals to eliminate the vulnerability.
Dixon also described frustration with FEMA mitigation grant requirements: FEMA requested an H&H (hydrologic and hydraulic) study, so the town must prepare a two-phase application beginning with engineering. "It's basically a 2 phase application," he said, explaining that the town's funding estimate rose from roughly $240,000 to over $300,000. Trustees noted limited funds and that disaster-impacted communities often have priority for limited mitigation dollars.
