Design team presents schematic plans for new Boxborough fire station

Architect Chris Logan of Context Architecture presented the schematic design for Boxborough's new fire station, identifying the site at 984 Mass Avenue and saying the design team is now in the schematic phase, which produces dimensioned plans. He said the site is about 4.21 acres and the building is currently shown at about 20,700 square feet.
"I'm Chris Logan with Context Architecture. I'm the project manager for the project," Chris Logan said as he introduced the design. The plan includes a drive‑through apparatus bay with exits routed to Sarah's Way, a one‑story administrative and public wing with lobby and training room, residential dorms and support spaces, and a triage room to offer immediate medical attention before transport when needed. The team said the schematic layout is being refined to meet NFPA and other life‑safety standards.
The presentation emphasized contamination control for living spaces, with a gear‑wash sequence, separate laundry and positively pressurized rooms off the apparatus to prevent particulates entering dorms and offices. Designers also showed 3‑D volume studies and said they will continue engineering work—survey, geotechnical borings and civil design—before finalizing locations and detailed sizes for storage and other rooms.
