During the public-comment period, a resident identified in the record as Billy Martin accused members of the sheriff's office of corruption and incompetence and said he has documentation supporting those claims.
Martin told the court: "He is corrupt. He is incompetent, and he has put this whole county in a very precarious position right now." He said a woman named Irene had been told she would be arrested if she returned to Wilson County and urged community protection of people he said were being falsely charged and harassed. Martin described having "about 40 files" and recounted an incident in which a man pointed a gun at him and his wife; he said the case was written up by detectives as a misdemeanor and resulted in deferred adjudication.
Martin also named a deputy he called "lieutenant Dubs," saying the lieutenant had called him a liar. Those allegations were presented during public comment and were not followed in the transcript by any statement or rebuttal from the sheriff's office or other county officials. The comments were made during the public-comment portion of the meeting under the three-minute time limit.
