Tax Director Kim Savage presented two tax items to the board on Jan. 20. First, Savage recommended approval of an abatement for parcel #56-0052900 for tax year 2025 based on qualifying for a 100% Homestead Credit; the board approved the abatement on the Tax Director’s recommendation.
Savage also presented the 2026 agricultural land valuations and said the average agricultural value per acre for Mountrail County decreased from $497.69 in 2025 to $473.38 for 2026. The Tax Director recommended a decrease using a 95% threshold (within the state tolerance of 90%–100%), and the board voted to approve that adjustment.
Savage noted that the cities of New Town and Plaza have lost their assessors and that the county may consider assigning staff from the Tax Director’s office to assist those cities on a reimbursable basis; further discussion was deferred to a future meeting.
