Commissioner Rex Wolfsen reported that all gates at the Lake St. Helen control structure are closed and that the property is deeded to the subdivision's property owners. Wolfsen told the board the structure is not ADA compliant and that, because the county does not control surrounding access points, liability is the board's principal concern.
Wolfsen noted the site receives substantial public use but said the board previously voted to restrict access to all lake level control structures. He said Lake St. Helen does not pose the same risks as other sites, but stressed that if the area is made available to the public the access must be ADA compliant and the county lacks the ability to manage the access point.
