The commission approved selection of RPA and three task orders to advance engineering work at Bowman Field (Anaconda Airport), including a simplified Airport Layout Plan revision, an instrument procedure study and project administration. Planning Director Carl Hamming said an independent fee estimate validated RPA’s proposal.
Hamming described the package as essential to preserving federal funding eligibility and enabling future airport improvements. RPA’s proposed fee was about $251,130; with anticipated federal and state participation, Hamming said the county’s out‑of‑pocket exposure for the scope under consideration would be approximately $1,500. The commission approved the Record of Engineering Selection and Task Orders 9–11 by unanimous vote.
Staff said the work will support grant applications and future capital projects and that RPA will pursue FAA and state coordination. The commission emphasized the value of pursuing airport improvements that leverage outside funding rather than direct local tax dollars.
