Commission to plan January work session on training, design guidelines and floor-area policies

Commissioners asked staff to schedule a focused work session in January to cover a set of recurring administrative and policy topics, including refresher training for commissioners, onboarding for new members, and follow-up on design guidelines and floor-area issues. The chair said she would work with staff on the packet distribution so board members could prepare in advance.

The topics members suggested for the work session included retraining on review criteria, proposals for clearer resolution language when historic material is discovered, the possibility of a preservation-plan standard, and a discussion about whether the commission wants to continue raising floor-area limits with city council. Commissioners emphasized the session should be efficient and prioritized to address the items most likely to need policy clarification.
