Committee approves IT corrective action plan after comptroller audit

The Steuben County finance committee approved a corrective action plan that staff said is required by the state comptroller for recent IT audits. A staff member explained the measure was limited to adopting the plan and does not authorize expenditures: “as noted in the email for both of the comptroller audits, we are required to develop a corrective action plan, for IT reporting to the administration committee, submitted for your approval,” the staff member said.

Staff said some corrective steps—particularly a planned data-categorization program—will require additional software and possibly servers and therefore will be scoped and brought back during the budgeting process. Committee members emphasized that approval today is procedural: the county will submit the plan to the comptroller, which the comptroller may later review for compliance during future audits.
