Guest warns miles-driven tax could require tracking drivers' movements, raises privacy concerns

Eric Eisenhammer told Taxpayer Alert that a proposed miles-traveled tax would require systems to record miles (and possibly locations), described legislative groundwork already passed, and cited an estimated 3–9¢ per gallon equivalent impact as an argument against it.

Guest Eric Eisenhammer said the fundamental problem is privacy and implementation: "in order to tax the amount of miles you drive, you know, it's like the government needs to know how many miles you drove, maybe even where you went," he said, arguing the proposal would require data collection that could be misused.
