ODOT District 2 realignment adds counties to the district; local grant programs and maintenance services outlined

ODOT District 2 representatives briefed Fulton County commissioners on a statewide district realignment and several grant and service opportunities for local governments.
Mark Bressler said the realignment brings Defiance County into District 2, adding about 340 lane miles, 558 culverts, 72 bridges and roughly 40,000 population and an estimated $7 million capital/6-year average to the district's responsibilities. Bressler listed grant and funding programs available to local jurisdictions: Safe Routes to School (1–2-mile radius), safety funding, abbreviated safety applications (projects under $500,000), Transportation Alternatives Program funds, Small City (outside MPO) funds, municipal bridge funding and urban paving and Jobs and Commerce programs.
Bressler also outlined maintenance-related services: ODOT will perform operations and mowing on state routes inside villages, will notify commissioners about chip-seal projects, offers brine for sale to local agencies at $0.70 per gallon (contact: ross.echler@dot.ohio.gov), and allows local public agencies to join ODOT salt contracts (contact: darian.grant@dot.ohio.gov). He encouraged local groups to participate in the county's Adopt-a-Highway program.
