Mid Kings GSA: about half of parcels registered; erroneous mailers being corrected and consultant will not bill

The Mid Kings River GSA is continuing its well-registration campaign and is now "roughly a little bit over 50%" complete, consultant Amer Hussain told the board on July 28. The GSA has sent notices to owners of small parcels and to people who began but did not complete registration; the registration deadline is Aug. 17, Hussain said, and staff are holding in-person help sessions (one session noted for Aug. 4) to assist rural residents.

Hussain acknowledged an error in mailed notices that mistakenly went to some addresses inside Hanford or the community of Harmona and said staff are correcting the mistake and notifying those residents. A board participant reported the consultant who prepared the mailers has agreed not to submit bills to the Mid Kings GSA for the erroneous notices, so taxpayers will not be charged for that work.

Why it matters: well registration is the GSA’s immediate administrative step to identify pumpers, verify locations and assemble the datasets needed for reporting, modeling and fee implementation. Completing registration ahead of model updates and funding ballots helps the GSA produce defensible allocations and targeted mitigation.

What residents should know: registered entity names and well coordinates (latitude/longitude) are published online; addresses are not. The GSA is continuing outreach to landowners to verify the state’s GEERS data and to reduce errors before staff finalize maps and model inputs.

Next steps: staff will continue outreach, correct erroneous notices, complete registration by Aug. 17 where possible, and proceed with model and funding tasks tied to registration data.
