On Aug. 5 the City Council approved Ordinance 2024‑O‑34, amending Chapter 21 of the City of Edgewater land development code to implement provisions of the Live Local Act (Chapter 2023‑317, Laws of Florida) for development of affordable housing in certain zoning districts.
Staff explained that the amendments update definitions, permitted and conditional uses, resource protection standards and site design criteria. Councilmembers discussed related business signage matters and agreed to workshop the earlier 'feather flag' permit language. The ordinance passed on second reading with an affirmative roll call.
Council and staff noted that the ordinance aligns local land‑use rules with state requirements and that additional minor adjustments could return to planning and zoning for fine‑tuning.
