Commission considers UDO edits separating storage types and adding wild-game processing rules

Staff briefed the commission on a set of Unified Development Ordinance edits that split the former "self storage" category into separate mini-storage, boat storage and RV-storage uses and adjusted where each type is permitted. The amendment would permit recreational-vehicle and boat storage in limited commercial, heavy commercial and light industrial districts and move mini-storage into limited commercial where appropriate.
The draft also adds "wild-game processing" as a defined use. Staff said processing done for customers must obtain a home-occupational certificate or equivalent occupational tax permit and noted the ordinance will clarify that processing for personal-use (e.g., harvesting your own deer and dressing it at home) is not governed by this home-occupation rule. "It may be processed only for customers who bring in carcass, no sale of meat," staff said; commissioners asked staff to refine the language to clearly distinguish for-hire processors from household, personal processing.
