The Meriwether County Board of Commissioners approved a 90-day extension of the county's moratorium on data center development on July 28, 2026. Staff told the board the moratorium extension would run through Nov. 21, 2026, to allow time to draft and review a proposed data center ordinance.
Staff explained legal has reviewed the moratorium and signed off on the extension request, and that a draft ordinance addressing county-identified concerns is nearing completion. A commissioner asked whether staff were working on ordinance modifications; staff replied they were close and requested the extension so legal review could be completed. The board approved the staff recommendation and authorized the chair to sign the extension.
The extension is procedural and intended to preserve the status quo while county staff and legal prepare an ordinance for future board consideration.
