Patrick County board approves VDOT secondary six-year highway plan

The Patrick County Board of Supervisors on April 13 approved the Virginia Department of Transportation's secondary six-year highway plan for fiscal year 2026–27 through 2031–32 after brief public comment and questions from supervisors.
A VDOT representative told the board the draft plan included the previously discussed addition of Hayden Road. Supervisor (voice 7) moved to approve the plan “as presented,” a motion seconded by voice 5; the chair then called the roll and recorded unanimous approval from Mister Marshall, Mister Kendrick, Mister Wood and the chair. "We'll proceed to vote," the chair said during the roll call.
Supervisors asked VDOT staff about project timing and traffic data for local roads. In response to a question about whether an average daily traffic count had been done for a rural road in the Peters Creek District, the VDOT representative said staff would "take a look at that." Board members also asked about the Route 8 Bridge project schedule; VDOT estimated work would begin in late next summer and confirmed that the Ashby Road project was planned to be finished before bridge work that will use a detour route rather than a full closure.
The plan, which VDOT said will include projects eligible for federal funds in the statewide transportation improvement program, will be available for review at the Martinsville Residency Office and at the county administrator's office as described during the hearing.
