Testing, student programs and community events highlighted in school reports

Cliff Fossitt reported that PSAT testing had been held with positive feedback in advance of spring testing; he also said 9th and 10th graders will take the NWEA test next month and that several students advanced in the Soap Box Challenge to competition at Northern Michigan University. Chris Marana described elementary activities including the chorus performance at an API dinner, the Smiles on Wheels dental program, student-designed coffee sleeves for Campfire Coffee and the upcoming March is Reading Month campaign.
Nathan Longton reported NMU students observing special-education classrooms this semester and recounted a MARESA presentation at the professional-development day. Griffin Lawson noted a Trails-class lantern snowshoe fundraiser, an upcoming Women in Construction event at NMU for eighth graders and the restart of a Career Café for 8th grade by Mrs. Ostola.
These were informational presentations; the board did not take formal action on the items during the meeting.
