Murphy presents first Citizens Academy session in years; graduates recognized

Council heard a summary of the recently completed Citizens Academy, a seven-session program designed to educate residents on city operations and strengthen resident engagement.
The presenter described sessions covering administration, economic development, police and courts, fire/rescue, public works, parks & recreation and internal services. Participation goals were exceeded (15–20 participant questions per session, quiz-score goal 80% with an achieved average of 89%) and staff said interactive activities and a mock council meeting helped residents understand how local government works.
Graduates were recognized during a brief ceremony; staff said short videos and social-media outreach produced during the academy will be shared with the public. No council action was required.
