Council OKs front-yard screening wall variance after resident cites safety concerns

Homeowner Travis Steele told council the recent realignment of South Maxwell Creek Road left his house closer to the travel lane and that two vehicle crashes nearby convinced him to seek a screening wall in the front yard. "It's non optional to not do something to mitigate this threat," Steele said, describing prior rollovers and fire at nearby yards.
Crimson Landscape’s representative said the proposed wall would be a modest, tan-colored screening wall set low in the yard with landscaping and nighttime lighting to make it visible. Planning staff said the request is a Chapter 26 variance and that P&Z recommended approval. Council approved the variance unanimously, and staff noted the design will be reviewed to ensure it meets development standards and does not create sight-line hazards.
