Commissioners approve change orders for sheriff’s office remodel

Rockwall County’s commissioners voted unanimously to approve prime contract change orders (PCCOs) for the sheriff’s office remodel, authorizing work the county said was anticipated and covered by contingency funds.

Commissioner Stacy presented the item as previously known work associated with saw cutting and pour‑backs tied to the remodel and said allowances were adjusted so the court would not be surprised by the request. “This was saw cutting that we knew we were gonna have to do, and I drained the allowance and just put everything in the contingency,” he said. The court recorded the motion to approve PCCO numbers 34 and 35 and approved the change orders 5–0.

County staff explained the change orders address code‑required saw cuts for floor boxes and other finish‑out items needed to complete the renovation. Project representatives told the court the work will allow the remodeled areas to move into final finishes and that some portions of the project (Area A, the South Old Jail portion) are already operational, including relocated evidence storage. Commissioners said the change orders help maintain the current substantial‑completion schedule.

The court’s vote authorizes the contractor to proceed with the specified contract modifications; commissioners said they would continue to monitor allowances and present future contingency needs in budget discussions.
