Highway Engineer reports Johnson grass response, county-aid backlog and Red Ball Trail progress

Highway Engineer Mike McCormick told the Bond County Board the department has received complaints about Johnson grass and that staff typically "mow two passes during the summer but plan on a third due to the wet summer we have been experiencing." He said staff are evaluating both chemical and mechanical options for next year and that the crew will address the issue proactively.
McCormick also reported he is addressing six outstanding county-aid projects that were previously approved but not completed, some dating as far back as six years; he said his crew will complete those projects. He updated the board that the Red Ball Trail bridge project is moving forward and that he is addressing a sign issue on Hazel Dell Road. McCormick presented the yearly salary minimums issued by IDOT for the Highway Engineer position and, after discussion, the board agreed to move forward with the recommended minimum of $118,000. McCormick reminded the board his salary is "no cost to the County."
