Sheriff updates commissioners on jail task force talks and traffic-data software pilot

Sheriff Trevor Wright appeared via Zoom and updated the Traverse County Commission on plans to explore a regional jail task force and on a traffic-data software pilot.
Wright said he and Commission Chair Jerrel Olson visited Wilkin County to discuss a possible jail task force and that he will meet with Douglas County next week; he plans to provide a fuller update at the Aug. 19 meeting. Wright also reported new deputy training is progressing and noted that on-call staffer Mickey Johansen will retire after the fair.
On traffic enforcement, Wright demonstrated the Urban SDK software the department is piloting, which supplies traffic-volume data Wright said could help target enforcement and support grant applications. He told the board the prorated cost for the remainder of 2025 would be $3,500 and asked for permission to move forward; commissioners asked staff to obtain more information about the vendor and product features and requested that a company representative attend a future meeting to present.
