OCMPF prioritizes battery storage safety for spring training

The Orange County Municipal Planning Federation decided to structure its spring half-day training around battery energy storage system safety, mitigation and municipal-code approaches, members said. Scot Brown said the course should include safety topics and a Planning Board perspective as communities weigh how to allow BESS projects responsibly.
Carla Castillo suggested inviting Lindsay Audin, an engineer who serves on Croton-on-Hudson’s climate/siting committee, to present on storage and battery types; David Niemotko and others discussed asking Orange & Rockland or legal counsel to address mitigation and contract language. The board identified May 29 or June 5 as possible dates and discussed holding the event at the Rowley Center Auditorium at SUNY Orange in Middletown. No final presenter or agenda was confirmed; staff will follow up by email and report back at the next meeting.
