Crystal Run Bridge replacement planned in Wallkill; three-month detour expected

The Ways and Means Committee approved a $1,000,000 supplemental appropriation on Feb. 24 for replacement of Crystal Run Bridge No.2 (BIN 3345120) on Stony Ford Road in the Town of Wallkill.
Erik Denega and Ryan McGuire said the 1956 bridge carries about 3,400 vehicles per day and currently has an 11-ton load posting. McGuire said plans call for widening the bridge and its approaches, replacing beams with precast reinforced concrete and applying an epoxy coating to extend longevity; engineers expect the replacement work will require a full detour (likely routing traffic via Route 207) and take approximately three months.
Legislators unanimously approved the appropriation. DPW staff said additional design and detour plans will be finalized during the procurement and contracting phases.
