Potter County approves five-year Axon contract and sheriff's grant application

Potter County commissioners on Sept. 23 approved a five-year agreement with Axon to supply tasers, body and dash cameras, cloud storage and related software and services for the sheriff's office.
Scott Giles, who presented the proposal, described the package as an “all encompassing” deal that includes 62 body cameras, 22 dash cameras, unlimited Evidence.com cloud storage and a $62,174 credit to start the new contract. Giles told the court the contract “entails, $241,152 payment for every year for the next 5 years.” The first year will be slightly lower ($239,929), he said, and the agreement includes periodic equipment refreshes to keep cameras and other devices current.
Commissioners also authorized the sheriff's office to apply for the rural sheriff's office grant under Senate Bill 22 for FY25, a grant the sheriff's office expects to use for staffing or county jail-related purposes; the court recorded a motion and second and approved both items. The sheriff’s presentation emphasized evidence management and storage needs tied to body-worn and in-car camera data.
The contracts and grant application were presented as budgeted items during the budget process; the court voted to authorize execution of the Axon agreement and to allow the sheriff’s office to pursue the grant.
